Shinobi emailed me with this comment:

"
I just realized that i had a bebop gun today so i got on here to c it and u said it is an 89. i looked for the difference between the 89 and 85 (i have an 85) and realized that the 89 has no lanyard loop on the handle neer the mag and the 85 does. so spike is using an 89 which all that i have seen (on gunbroker.com, ect.) have 15 round mags and mine as well. so if u want to correct that it is an p85 with 15 round mag+ 1 chambered."

What he's trying to say is that in the caps I took, the gun has a lanyard loop whilst the P89 does not. I took a closer look, checked Modern Firearms & Ammunition and by golly he right! The gun Spike is handling is a
P85, NOT a P89!

Many thanks to
Mr Shinobi for pointing this out. I must have been blind all this time! ^_^

The Ruger P-series were designed with the goal of 'producing high quality, reliable and affordable service & personal defence pistols'. However the P85 was found to have 'average accuracy and uncomfortable controls' & was subsequently replaced by the P89.

The good news is that the P-series 'are extremely sturdy, capable of continuous firing of high-pressure +P loads without any damage to construction.'

Ian Roberts had this to add on other differences between the P85 and the P89:

"You identified the difference between the P89 and P85 as the 85 having the lanyard loop but there is another key difference that also shows to gun to be the 85 and not the 89. The P85 uses a combination thumb safety/decocker, this safety has a different shape than the 89 as well as a small hole on the bottom showing either white or red to indicate safe or armed. This can be seen in the screen caps on your site and the P89 can be referenced at the Ruger site."

Thanks Ian!

9MM RUGER AUTO PISTOL MODEL P85 w/ Factory Case & Manual. 3-dot adjustable sight, ambidextrous safety + 10-round mag, safety padlock & Owners Manual.
AMAZING detail in this DVD cap. Note Ruger symbol & name. Spike appears to be using the 15 round capacity mag, pre-ban.
2nd shot. The clincher is the lanyard ring beneath the grip and the name on the slide, 'P85'.
