The G3 assault rifles in Vicious execution scene in session 25 The Real Folk Blues Part1 has been identified jointly by Henry Shieh, Marc Springer and Justin Schares.
They are recognized as G3's when many of you noted that the magazines in the cap I took were straight instead of the curved ones used in 5.56mm calibre G33/41 rifles. After much prodding & furthur investigation I confirm they are indeed G3's.
The G3 assault rifle is a rather old weapon that dates back to 1959 when it was first adopted by the then West German Bundeswehr. Its design originates from the Spanish CETME rifle, which developed into its own specialised family, the latest being the CETME Modele L if I am not mistaken.
The G3 is a robust and reliable weapon, though a little dated and heavy. It continued to be featured on HK's sales brochures as late as the 1990's, but HK has since ceased production of the type.
Its most recognizable trait is that its roller-locking mechanism is also utilized in the much shrunken cousin the MP5 sub-machinegun. It was and still is chambered for the 7.62 x 51mm round. The G3's influence can be seen throughout the later range of Hk offerings as the basic locking mechanism has been used for the MP5 SMG, 5.56mm HK assault rifle, HK 21/23 machinegun, and the PSG semi-auto sniper rifle.
Since then it has been widely used throughtout the world both by government & rebel forces. Its most well-known use to date was the Rhodesian civil war in Africa and the civil war in El Salvador in the 1980's.
