Paul @ ArcaneX has this to say on the rifles:
"The guards and military both use a variant of the G11 rifle that Spike says in the film are G21s when discussing the situation with Jet. In other words the animators based this weapon after the G11 and made some adjustments calling it a G21. The rifles, basically, don't exist. :)"
Dave had this to add regarding the G21:
"Hi. i just thought id email you on the section of your site about KOHD and the supposed G21 assault weapons the Cherious guards carry. Youre quite right in the assumption about the G11s as for the extended stock, theres a few possibilities. 1.My best bet: Since Cherious are so dead set on secrecy, they obviously added some kind of sound suppressor. cuz a gun like a G11 without one is bound to sound like a cannon. 2. they could be some kind of attachment to enhance range and accuracy, seeing as Cherious most likely wants as little shots fired as necessary. 3. they look cool."
Shaun Allen adds that "on closer inspection I find thats its looks to be a mix of the H&K G11 and the FN 2000 bullpup assult rifle. Actually its kinda reminds me of the M41-A pulse rifle from aliens".
So I guess Cherious Medical decided to procure milspec rifles for their guards. Perhaps in 67 years the G11 has finally been resurrected in some modified form sans caseless cartridges but with nowadays mandatory rail mounts. Why not the XM-8? IMHo present day rifles are just as good (my current fav being the H&K G-36).
And I feel that the M16 problems with reliability would be solved if it were not manufactured using stamped steel. AFAIK the reason stamped steel ware used is to procure cheaper cost & speed up wartime manufacture to get the weapons into frontline use ASAP.
Since many nations are not fighting a full scale conventional conflict and fcae no embargo on crucial mineral deposits, shouldn't it make sense to manufacture present arms for frontline use using high-grade steel parts rather than waiting for them to fall apart in the heat of combat resulting in needless deaths & casualties?
Granted, the costs may increase and the weapons themselves may incure increased weight penalties, but if WW2 era Beretta and Suomi m/1931 SMG's were highly prized for their accuracy and foolproof reliabilty, isn't it worth it?
